Warren Residence Receives Award

This is the 1st of 7 weeks where we will be showcasing beautiful portraits of some of our Horizon High School students on our page. The photos were taken by volunteer professional photographer, Ira Casel, at Grandparent’s Day. To visit his website, please click here. Ira did an amazing job of capturing the spirit of that day. Here is Hannah and her “nana,” Hermine.

The speech program at the Irvington ATC is in full swing as the New Year begins. Staff and consumers both enjoy learning a new language during interactive sign language sessions.
Qaneasha’s participation in the Sign Language discussions has given her the chance to speak successfully in front of a group. They have learned how to ask and tell their names and addresses.
Sonny and Elizabeth have added conversation-friendly Quickfires such as: “Really?”, “Excuse Me!”, and “Oops!” to their Springboard Lite Communication Devices which have added cool additions to their already lively conversations.
Damion who asked to be part of the Speech Program, has been practicing how to project his voice so he will be ready on Valentine’s Day to share with everyone the love poem which he has authored. Lenny & Kendrell have enjoyed completing page after page of crossword puzzles helping each other with vocabulary and strengthening word-finding skills.
All in all, the Irvington Speech Program is looking forward to making 2012 a year of innovation, comradeship, and community!
Through the coordination of Jersey Cares, the group home residents were treated to a morning of fun activities to celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 16th. Special thanks to volunteer Carole Asymkos, the Jersey Cares project coordinator for this event. To see more pictures from this event, check out our facebook page!
The Aidan K Foundation purchased over 40 holiday gifts for children in our Early Intervention program. For the second year, their efforts ensured that every child in EIP would have a present to open on Christmas morning. The Aidan K Foundation supports CPNJ throughout the year through volunteering and fundraising.
Thank you to all of the supporters of this organization, as well as to our therapists who referred children and delivered the gifts.

Our consumers in the Irvington Adult Training Center enjoyed learning about what to do in an emergency. Michelle from the Family Resource Center came to teach them about the different types of emergencies and what to do in each. Each consumer received a “to go” bag and learned what they should put in it! Check out more photos of this educational event on our CPNJ Facebook page.
