Augmentative & Alternative Communication

Everybody has a “voice”, and CPNJ staff is dedicated to helping each of those we serve to discover it.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (in addition to verbal speech) that are used to convey thoughts, express needs and wants, and share ideas. AAC can include gestures, sign language, picture books, communication boards and voice-output devices. AAC systems can range from fairly simple to technologically advanced.

Our AAC team serves toddlers, children, and adults with developmental or acquired disabilities and is available on a contracted basis for assessment/consultation using our state-of-the-art equipment library, identification of AAC system options, assistance in the acquisition of selected AAC system components, team and caregiver training, therapy services, and coordination other assistive technology services and applications.

Funding options for CPNJ’s AAC services vary for each age group. Our staff is available to assist with determining funding eligibility and submitting relevant documentation.

We are also available to host and provide on and off-site family workshops and professional development events on various AAC topics. Please inquire further for availability and fees.
